Cookies - A healthier alternative

One of my earliest and fondest memories from my childhood was my first cookie given to me by my mom. I remember the sweet warmth and "gooieness" of the chocolate chips, just out of the oven, and the crunchy crisp edges that surrounded the cookie.

It was pure heaven and I'm happy to say, it still is! Whenever I bite into a delicious cookie I am somehow transported back to my boyhood days and all is right with the World...at least until I'm finished my cookie...;)

However, cookies were not doing any good for my weight loss goals or my tummy, and when I began my weight loss journey I thought I woud have to give up cookies forever. Well, I'm happy to say that that is definitely not the case as new-age bakeries, organic food stores and even multi-national corporations have given in to the health conscious consumer and their demand for healthier options.

It used to be that most any store-bought bag or box of cookies would contain enough fat, trans-fat, sugar and calories to seriously rethink the whole cookie thing. Except that I would still eat the cookies...lots of them! And believe me, that wasn't a good thing at all.

Fortunately, there are now so many tasty choices out there that I needn't have to worry about eating cookies anymore!! Well, that is as long as I still remember to watch how many I eat. Just because there are many more healthy cookie choices out there, we still have to be careful not too eat too many at one sitting. After all, the whole idea behind making healthier choices is to bypass our old habits and work on creating new, healthier habits. Healthier habits that will benefit us not only in the short term, in the case of weight loss or weight management, but also long term, in regards to our overall health and well-being down the road.

I have included a list of delicious cookie alternatives below that should help with our cookie eating desires and sweet tooths. Healthy cookies that are low in fat, low in sugar but high in taste. Snack away my friends, snack away!
